psychobotania

2022 Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, Paris FR

PSYCHOBOTANIA is an immersive visual, sonic, and olfactory experiment conceived for the Universcience gallery at Cité des sciences et de l’industrie. The project draws from a series of ayahuasca-induced dreams I experienced between 2016 and 2020 during multiple research stays in the Peruvian Amazon. These altered perceptual states became a field of inquiry in which inner imagery, scent, and vibration function as vectors of knowledge, opening a space where bodily memory enters into dialogue with vegetal cosmologies.

Throughout this period, I investigated how plants, through their fragrances and ritualized shamanic uses, actively shape social organization and participate in the construction of identity within local communities. This attention to vegetal intelligences situates my practice within a zone of hybridization between plant-based animism and technological naturalism, where the conceptual structures inherited from modernity shift toward more porous perceptual regimes.

The installation brings together a constellation of cognitive and physiological materials gathered in the jungle — video fragments, sonic traces, and olfactory compositions — later remastered and hybridized through algorithmic processes. These transformations incorporate layers drawn from popular culture, including visual intensities reminiscent of Akira and tonal structures echoing the underground electronic music of my adolescence, establishing a continuity between shamanic vision and technological imaginaries.

With PSYCHOBOTANIA, I conceive the exhibition space as a traversable environment rather than a site of representation. The work functions as a drift into interiority, inviting sensory exploration and a gradual infiltration of the unconscious while following the winding pathways of plant knowledge. A perceptual field takes shape where dream, matter, and signal intertwine, outlining a sensitive cartography of transformation.
